Rand McNally has come up with an interesting way to keep the map business fresh in these days of Google Maps and GPS systems and phones with both. They’ve begun selling fabMAPs which are city maps printed on waterproof microfiber fabric. The maps are aimed at the tourist market and can double as a lens cleaning cloth for your phone, camera or glasses.
The great thing about these maps is that if you’re a tourist and taking lots of pictures or videos, you’re either going to want to have a lens cleaning cloth with you at all times or you already keep one handy so why not have a map on it? And since they’re waterproof, in a surprise rainstorm you can use them to cover your head or more importantly your camera. They sell for $5.95 each.
