Drop Stop Keeps Stuff Out of Your Crack

Posted by: Jeff In: Travel Gadgets

drop stop Drop Stop Keeps Stuff Out of Your Crack
The crack between your car’s seat and center console is a vast black hole of lost keys, french fries, coins, receipts and breath mints. I once lost my small dog under the seat. Drop Stop puts a $20 end to all that by filling in the crack with a piece of black neoprene that “matches any car’s interior” (cause it’s black.. and black goes with everything I guess).

Could you get the same effect with a magazine or placemat or piece of stiff fabric? Probably. Can this save lives by preventing car accidents? Maybe- a lot of car accidents are caused by taking your eyes off the road, so something that keeps you from having to reach down under your seat to retrieve your dropped cell phone can probably keep you safer on the road. Or maybe you could just watch where you’re driving and pull over if you need to get something you dropped.

gas can luggage
The GasCase from NeoMansLand (French) is a rolling suitcase made from a jerrycan (aka a metal gas can). The cans are split down the middle and fitted with a zipper and a clasp in two different style- one designed like typical luggage for clothes and the “flip top” style is for business documents or records for a DJ. The luggage certainly looks durable and distinctive (no worries about not being able to spot your bag on the airport carousel). However the GasCase might just draw some extra unwanted attention from airport security since you’re not allowed to bring liquids onto flights and your bag is made from a container that was designed specifically to hold liquids. Available in 4 colors for around $140.

luggage scooter
Why hasn’t anyone thought of this sooner? It’s a suitcase with a fold down scooter so you can quickly move about the airport. Designed by Samsonite and Micro Mobility, it does look a bit like the scooter mechanism takes up a lot of space where your items would go in the suitcase. But I guess you’re sacrificing space for convenience and speed. Crunchgear dug this up but can’t seem to find any information about price or availability. Imagine if they combined this with the Ride on Carry on for the ultimate airport lugger luggage?

Suitcase for your Bicycle

You’ve got to really love your bicycle to take it on a plane with you. I’m not even sure if you’re really legally allowed to bring them unless they’re in some sort of container, likely oversized and you know the airlines would love to charge you lots of extra money for that. The AeroTech Evolution bicycle case makes traveling with your bike much easier. The case has a tough but slightly absorbent ABS shell, velcro straps and well-place foam tubing to protect your precious bicycle while in the cargo hold. Because you can be pretty sure your bike is precious if you’re willing to fly with it. I wouldn’t know anything about cycling since my nerd legs are too weak to pedal.

flye baby tray table
FlyeBaby Hammock Sling makes traveling with a baby much easier. When you’re taking an infant on a plane, you normally have to hold the child in your arms the entire flight in your cramped seat. With the FlyeBaby, you can create a comfortable place for the baby to sit where she can see you face to face during the flight.

The FlyeBaby has fabric straps that attach to the tray table on the airplane and another set of straps that attach to the parent’s waist. The baby is secured via a three-point harness. Beyond just using it on the airlines, the FlyeBaby can also be used to strap your baby into almost any other chair:

This flexibility gives you the convenience of a baby seat at home or when you’re traveling without having the bulk of an actual chair. The machine washable baby seat is made of a cotton/poly blend and comes in your choice of four color patterns.

Light Up Tent Stake for Night Camping

Posted by: Jeff In: Travel Gadgets

led light tent pegs
Anyone who has ever arrived at a campsite after dark and tried set up their tent will appreciate the usefulness of these light up tent stakes. Trying to maneuver your lantern and all the parts of the tent is always a major hassle. Some people just leave on their car headlights, although clearly this is not the best option for a number of reasons (and may not even be a feasible option at all if you’re hiking in without a car). I’ve seen glow in the dark tent pegs Light Up Tent Stake for Night Camping before, but those are more useful to prevent tripping over than to actually stake into the ground.

The LED light in these tent pegs is rated for up to 5 hours. The light pops out slightly from the stake itself and can be rotated up to 80 degrees to shine the light where you need it. That’s good because when you’re camping and it’s dark, it can be hard to find the exact perfect spot to drive in your stakes, especially if the ground is rocky or hard. The difference between a good spot and a bad spot can be small and having a light shining right on the ground will help you find the right spot. When it gets late you don’t want to waste time setting up camp- you just want to get the fire going, get some food and drink, and then pass out in your sleeping bag. These tent pegs cost $3.72 each and includes batteries.

blanket with pocket
We’re big fans of the Snuggie here at Craziest Gadgets. We love how ridiculously stupid it is and laugh at those foolish enough to pay and actually “wear” a blanket with sleeves. We mock those who opt for the inferior Snuggie alternatives like the Slanket, Snuggler, and Toasty Wrap. Yet somehow a blanket with a pocket for your gadgets doesn’t seem all that bad.

The Blue Travel Set is a fleece blanket and pillow in one. A zippered pouch holds the blanket and becomes the pillow case for the inflatable pillow when the blanket’s removed. The 48″ x 32″ cozy blanket has a pocket for your iPod, cell phone, or Zune.

Not a bad idea because if you’re snuggling up in a blanket you probably want to keep your gadget on the outside for easy use. Without a pocket, you have to balance it on your body somewhere and it will inevitably start slide away when you shift your position and will end up dangling from your ears by the headphone cord. While that’s not the worst thing in the world, a pocket would be handy. Decent. And it doesn’t have sleeves. $28.
