sega outrun driveable
Remember OutRun, the classic arcade game that was miles ahead of similar earlier driving games like Pole Position? Someone named Garnet Hertz (that can’t possibly be his real name, could it? awesome!) is taking an old OutRun arcade cabinet and modding it on top of an EVT America Electric Trike (basically it’s an electric scooter) to make a drivable OutRun machine.

Now obviously you won’t be able to see where you going so this vehicle will use GPS to display a map on the screen. But not just a regular GPS map- oh no. This map is going to be rendered into the OutRun style so it looks like you’re playing the game (and in a way you really are). Did I mention this car can go up to 20mph?! It’s going to have to be used in a controlled environment otherwise you’d be running down pedestrians like you’re playing GTA.

Steampunk MAME Arcade Cabinet

Posted by: Jeff In: Video Gaming

steampunk arcade cabinet
This has to be one of the sweetest homemade arcade cabinets ever. It’s a steampunk MAME arcade cabinet entitled Dr. Frankenstein’s Monster Arcade on the marquee. The machine combines “Victorian elements found in steampunk with electrical mad-scientist designs”. That’s one awesome combination. Since it’s a MAME cabinet, it can play virtually any arcade game ever using it’s PC brain. It took 60-80 hours to create.

Arcade Game Cabinet Kegerator

arkeg 262x500 Arcade Game Cabinet Kegerator
Beer and video games! The greatest combination since peanut butter and chocolate are now intertwined into one unit. The $3999 (wow, pricing it in the $3000’s sure makes it seem like a bargain psychologically- I’m putting one in my cart now) Arkeg comes complete with 69 built-in games and a 24 inch LCD screen. The bottom part of the unit can hold a 5 gallon keg, complete with CO2 tank. The arcade cabinet is fully customizable, from joysticks and trackballs, to the marquee and drip tray for the beer. Now if you have a potential Donkey Kong kill screen coming up, you can enjoy a nice cold beer without fear of losing the game.

tree carved game console Video Game Cabinet Carved out of Tree Trunk
Here’s a cool little art project from the Netherlands, it’s an arcade game cabinet carved out of a tree trunk. Boom means tree in Dutch. Pretty cool idea and nice woodworking. If you get bored of it, you could turn it on it’s side, float it in the river, and play real life Frogger with it. Or not.
