The expanding (or collapsing, depending upon your viewpoint- we’re staying positive today so expanding it is) solar lantern is an interesting design that allows for a decent amount of light from a compact package. The idea is simple enough, it’s a paper lantern style lamp with a solar panel on one end. It folds up like an accordion for charging in the sun.
Designed by Jesper Jonsson, the lantern collapses into a pocket size package, letting you bring a nice size lantern with you without taking up much space. A magnetic strap allows you to attach the lamp to things whether it’s in charge mode or light mode. Cool design.
