lili lite
The Lili Lite is a bookshelf that can do so much more than just hold books. Ok, not that much more but it does have a nice looking design with an integrated reading light underneath. It also has a peak in the middle which is made to function as a bookmark and keep your book open to the page where you stopped reading. The most interesting part about the Lili Lite is that when you place your book down on the “bookmark”, the light will automatically turn off and when you pick the book up again, the light turns on. That’s smart! You can also turn the light on the old fashioned way with a switch. Costs $125 or so (from the NL).

pisa tower shelves
This relatively normal looking wooden box transforms into the Pisa Tower shelving unit named after the famed Leaning Tower of Pisa. Unlike the Romanesque structure, these shelves don’t actually lean (nor are they Romanesque). Each shelf is however on a angle from the one below it and is actually balanced upon the top edges of it’s downstairs neighbor. An elastic rope through the middle adds to the stability.

The Pisa Tower was designed by Milica Nešovanovi to be a multi-functional piece of furniture. It works as shelves obviously but also when it’s in it’s compressed state the piece works as an end table or coffee table.

Donkey Kong Shelves

donkey kong shelves
When I try to hang shelves in my house, this is what they usually end up looking like- crooked and like an 8 year old kid did the work. Well not so with these Donkey Kong shelves- these were hung at an angle on purpose to mimic the look of the great arcade game. They look geeky great! He’s got just the right combination of video game equipment and random nerd miscellania to get +10 geek cred points. I’d be worried that all my junk was about to slide right off them onto the floor. The little ladders really give it the complete Donkey Kong effect, otherwise it would just be crooked shelves.

Swiss Army Knife Shelf

Posted by: Jeff In: Organization Tools

swiss army shelf Swiss Army Knife Shelf
You never know how or when your storage needs are going to change. So having a highly adjustable shelf on your wall is ideal for variable storage. Designed by Mexican based ludens, this shelf is (obviously) modeled after a Swiss army knife with shelves that fold out to suit your various needs. It looks more like a conceptual design at this point (correct me if I’m wrong!) but I could see it being produced although I wonder how secure those thinner shelves are.
