Playing with your “food” is fun. Yes I just called gumballs food. The Gumball Pinball Machine from Hammacher plays like a normal, albeit simple, pinball machine except instead of steel balls it uses up to three 1″ gumballs at a time. The baseball themed playing field has “win” and “lose” holes. Get it in the win hole, your gumball comes out the slot. Lose and it goes back into the hopper. The machine can hold up to 1700 gumballs in the back area, which would take my friend Tommy about 10 minutes to go through (the guy is a pinball wizard, his wrists are incredibly supple). $1000 for this durable powder coated steel machine. No coins or electricity required.

Obi-Wan Kenobi vs Darth Vader Cake

We haven’t featured a good cake post here in a while, so today we’ve got a real nice one. It’s a double groomsman’s cake featuring Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi locked in a epic lightsaber battle. Created by Jen Roberts from Sweet Element (from New Jersey if you want to order up your own cake!), the cakes have realistic light-up lightsabers attached too. We almost never a see an Obi-Wan cake, so this is particularly exciting for cake geeks. Here’s a closeup on Darth:

This cake is particularly challenging, in my never-baked-a-cake-before opinion, because it’s two different characters with totally different styles. Here’s your Obi-Wan closeup:

Emperor Palpatine Cake

When I saw this Emperor Palpatine Cake, I thought hey this has to be only Palpatine cake out there because what kind of maniac would let their kid put such an evil character on a cake? A quick Lycos search (lol just kidding- Google) quickly proved that theory wrong because in fact we covered one right here back in the ’00′s. Man the aughts were a blur, amirite?

Of course that one was more cartoonlike, so I will dub the 2011 Palpatine cake as officially “the most realistic Palpatine Cake ever made”. Now I see there are two names on the cake, so clearly one of these kids is the evil twin exerting his influence in all birthday related matters over the weaker “good” twin. I’m betting it’s Bradley, you can’t trust a Bradley.

It’s a Harrison Ford bonanza! One side of this cake created by Mrs. Mac’s Creative Cakes (UK) features some Indiana Jones action (note the giant boulder!) while the other half of the cake is Star Wars.

And just to complete the geek trifecta, it’s also Lego. Personally I’d eat the Indiana Jones side first cause that’s just how I roll. Hey, as long as it’s not a Six Days Seven Nights cake it’s all good.

Star Trek Cookies Won’t Live Too Long nor Prosper

Tis the season.. for cookies. Geek cookies to be specific. Our friend Katie from Punk Projects (who you might remember from the Star Trek wooden figures) has created yet another piece of homemade Trekness. This time it’s sweet looking Star Trek Christmas Cookies. Note the half eaten “expendable crew member” in red- that’s pinpoint attention to detail right there. Other faves you might recognize (from left to right)- Sulu, unknown ensign, Scottie, Expendable crew member, Captain Kirk, Uhura, Spock, Bones, and Chekov.

I’ll tell you what, if these cookies were located anywhere within my vicinity, they would not be living long nor prospering. They’d be beamed right up to my mouth and boldly go where many cookies have gone before; right into my belly. Nice work again, Katie.
