Ladders, while very useful for reaching things in high places, are not particularly portable. You rarely see some guy walking down the street with a ladder unless you’re a big fan of slapstick comedy in which case the ladder carrying painter is an extremely overrepresented character. (cue the Benny Hill Music…now) This portable ladder designed by Itay Laniado uses a rope and ratchet design to collapse into a relatively tight package (for a ladder) for transportation.

The ladder doesn’t have any screws or nails holding it together- the entire thing is held up using tension from the ropes and ratchet. The ratchet also doubles as a handle when it’s folded up. The rope also functions as a few of the rungs.
