The MagnaTrace sensor necklace tracks medication intake for elderly or psychiatric patients. Specially designed pills, embedded with a tiny magnet are given to the patients and the MagnaTrace scans their esophagus as the pills are swallowed to determine if and when they actually took their medications. While it seems like a good concept in theory, the idea of forcing patients to wear a tracking collar sort of makes me think of the way we take care of animals. On the other hand, if this can save lives in some way, I’m all for it.
